Constitution and By-Laws of The Van Wert County Retired Teachers' Association
ARTICLE I Name and Purpose
Section 1 The name of this organization shall be the VAN WERT COUNTY CHAPTER OF the OHIO RETIRED TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION.
Section 2 The purpose of the Association shall be to be of service to the community, to aid in the advancement of the public schools, to foster good fellowship among the retired public school teachers and to help promote the interests and welfare of the retired school teachers of Ohio.
ARTICLE II Membership
Section 1 Membership shall be open to all retired certified public school teachers and administrators who may have become residents of or taught in any public school within Van Wert County.
Section 2 All eligible persons shall be admitted into the Association upon application accompanied by the payment of dues for the full current calendar year. It is recommended that the applicant also show membership in the Ohio Retired Teachers' Association.
ARTICLE III Officers
Section 1 The officers of the Chapter shall be : President, Vice President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer. These, together with the chairman of the following committees, shall constitute the Executive Board: Legislative, Publicity, Program, Membership, Service and Welfare, and Social. The committee chairmen, who are appointed by the President, may select as many committeemen as they deem necessary.
ARTICLE IV Elections
Section 1 The Officers shall be elected at the Fall meeting for a term of two years, taking office on January 1.
Section 2 The President shall appoint a nominating committee of three members who are not members of the Executive Committee. This Committee shall nominate two candidates for the offices of President, Secretary and Treasurer. Under no circumstances, however, shall this procedure prohibit additional nominations from the floor at the meeting of the Association. The Committee shall conduct the election and announce the results to the Association. The candidate receiving the most votes shall be elected President, Secretary and Treasurer. The second highest votes shall be elected Vice President, Assistant Secretary, and Assistant Treasurer.
ARTICLE V Meetings
Section 1 There shall be four meetings of the Association held annually, one in April, July, October and December, on the 2nd Friday. The October meeting shall be known as the Annual Meeting at which time officers are elected for the next fiscal year. The exact time and place shall be determined by the Executive Committee and notice shall be sent to all members.
Section 2 Special meetings of the Executive Board or of the Association may be called by the President of the Association.
ARTICLE VI Dues
Section 1 The Executive Committee, with the approval of the Association, may fix dues from time to time to meet the needs of the Association. The minimum dues, however, shall be one ($1.00) per year.
Section 2 Dues shall be effective on a calendar-year basis and must be paid on or before the October meeting. One year non-payment of dues lapses membership.
Section 3 All claims against the Chapter for materials or services must be approved and signed by the President and Secretary, then presented to the Treasurer for payment.
Section 4 Past Presidents automatically become honorary members of the Executive Committee for a period of one year.
ARTICLE VII Constitutional Amendments
Section 1 This Consitution and By-Laws may be amended at any general meeting by a two-thirds vote of the membershp present. By-Laws provide that Roberts Rules of order shall govern all meetings.
