Minute Excerpts - October 11, 2019 Meeting
The Van Wert Retired Teachers met at the Willow Bend Country Club for their October meeting. State and local dues were collected as well as a special collection to give to the Haven of Hope Homeless Shelter.
Prior to the meal a representative of AMBA presented an overview of what their services may offer to ORTA members.
After the meal, author Kylee Baumle shared her life story and writing journey as she switched roles in life to pursue a passion for monarch butterflies. Kylee's book, The Monarch: Our Most-Loved Butterfly was researched and written after many life changes came her way.
After many years of avoiding gardening, Kylee took an interest in the beautiful things in the outdoors such as flowers, plants, and animals, especially butterflies. She became frustrated by there not being a definitive resource on Monarch butterflies, so she was challenged to create such a resource, and after many years of learning the facts, and then learning about publishing books, she authored her book The Monarch.
In closing, Kylee advised us to seek out new opportunities and to be open to trying something new in life. Don't fear what is unknown...learn about it.
Following the program, President Kleinhenz, led the business meeting.
The Treasurers report indicated that $130.00 was given each for the Operation Backpack program at First United Methodist church and Council on Aging.
Members were encouraged to continue volunteering and remember to turn those hours in at the October meeting.
District Director, B.J. Woodruff, reminded members that our Executive Director of ORTA sits in on every STRS Board meeting and is very active in stating ORTA needs, especially the return of the COLA.
After a few general announcements concerning things happening in our community the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be the holiday luncheon on Friday, December 13th at noon.
